Geebung is a suburb of northern Brisbane, approximately 11 kilometers from the CBD. Around it are suburbs of Chermside, Wavell heights, Toombul and Virginia. It is also conveniently situated along the Caboolture railway line.
Because of its proximity to the CBD, Geebung has been catching up with its neighbouring suburb of Virginia when it comes to excellent facilities and population growth, thereby gaining the interest of property investors.

As you may have gleaned from the numbers in industry of employment, healthcare-related services rank the second on the top industries of employment in Geebung. This is because Chermside offers residents of Geebung easy access to its hospitals. Geebung’s proximity to Chermside also provides residents access to the latter’s major shopping centre which has all major retailers, restaurants and cinema complex.
Commuting is also convenient in Geebung as it has two railway stations—Sunshine and Geebung—within its boundaries. Next to traveling via car to and from work, people of Geebung either take the train or bus. Commute via bus is also convenient as Geebung has express bus services that run around town at regular intervals.
Commuting to nearby city is likewise easy, thanks to Geebung’s major roads like Gympie Road and Sandgate Road. Meanwhile, Gateway Motorway provides easy access to the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast coming from Geebung.
While Geebung provides easy access to cosmopolitan suburbs around the area, it also provides leisure facilities perfect for winding down after a stressful week at work. Bowden park has electric barbecue, picnic and playground areas. There are also lagoons and wetlands in neighbouring Boondal.
For art lovers, Brisbane Entertainment Centre featuring musical and stage shows is also nearby.
Public transport is also good with two railway stations (Sunshine and Geebung) within the suburb’s boundaries. City express bus services also run at regular intervals. Major roads such as Gympie Road or Sandgate Road put the commute to the city at around 30 minutes. The Gold Coast and Sunshine Coasts are also easily accessible via the Gateway Motorway.
Infrastructure and Investment
One of the major infrastructure projects in the offing is the $199 million Geebung open level crossing overpass that is set to start middle of the year and is expected to finish in 2014. This project will improve safety and reduce congestion around the area.
Summary
We mentioned Geebung in passing in our last issue’s Top 10 Budget Hotspots feature as one of the good places to invest to in Brisbane area and there’s a good reason for it. Geebung has local amenities and easy access to neighbouring suburb’s facilities plus good public transport. The outward ‘ripple’ effect sees Geebung as a good investment location with affordable housing with good growth prospects, attracting buyers to this location. Older style housing also provides some great ‘add value’ opportunities.
